The catchment

Relatively small catchment area consisting mostly of Upper Devonian sandstones, siltstones and slates. Land use is mainly rural and agricultural. No major urbanisation in the catchment. Wimbleball Reservoir impounded 1978.

The station

Station opened in 01/1993 with a Flat V weir, crest length approximately 5m wide. Relatively straight approach with a stable bed. Velocity area station for higher flows.

How it measures flow

No bypassing or drowning out. Considered a good station. Station just upstream of Wimbleball Reservoir. Bankfull at 1.6m. One rating applied across period of record confirmed to 0.5m by spot flow gaugings.
