About Ruthin
Ruthin
Town in Wales

Ruthin is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill, skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. The name comes from the Welsh rhudd ('red') and din ('fort'), after the colour of sandstone bedrock, from which the castle was built in 1277–1284. The Old Mill, Ruthin, is nearby. Maen Huail, a registered ancient monument associated with King Arthur and with Hueil mab Caw, the brother of the historian Gildas, stands in St Peter's Square.

Flood Zones, Warning Areas and Surface Water are Environment Agency maps and cover England only. Ruthin is in Wales, so they draw little or nothing here — that is where the map ends, not an absence of flood risk. Natural Resources Wales’s warning areas have their own pages under flood areas.

Environment Agency Flood Warning Areas

No Environment Agency flood warning area is mapped within 10km of Ruthin. That means the EA has not defined a warning target area here, which is not evidence the town cannot flood: warning areas exist where the EA runs a warning service, and surface-water and groundwater flooding have no warning areas at all. The EA’s register covers England only — Ruthin is in Wales, where the warning service is Natural Resources Wales’s, and FloodRadar publishes its areas alongside the EA’s on the flood areas index.

Recorded floods near Ruthin

No recorded flood outline within ~5 km of the Ruthin town centre means no flood was mapped here, which is not evidence none happened: the Environment Agency mapped only some floods, mapping effort rose sharply after about 2000, and surface-water flooding is largely absent from this record. The Environment Agency's Recorded Flood Outlines cover England only, and Ruthin is in Wales — so an empty record here is an absence of coverage, not an absence of floods.
