Glossop is a market town in the borough of High Peak, Derbyshire, England, 13 miles (21 km) east of Manchester, 24 miles (39 km) west-northwest of Sheffield and 32 miles (51 km) north-east of Matlock. Near Derbyshire's borders with Cheshire, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, between 150 and 300 metres above sea level, it is bounded by the Peak District National Park to the south, east and north. In 2021, it had a population of 17,825.
Ordnance Survey places 73 postcodes in Glossop in the Environment Agency's rivers-and-sea flood-risk dataset (Risk of Flooding from Rivers and Sea). Each postcode is counted once, under the worst band any of its properties reaches; together they hold 908 properties in the EA dataset's likelihood bands.
| EA likelihood band | Postcodes (worst band) | Properties in the EA dataset | of which homes |
|---|---|---|---|
| High | 45 | 424 | 299 |
| Medium | 8 | 85 | 51 |
| Low | 19 | 379 | 254 |
| Very low | 1 | 20 | 19 |
| All bands | 73 | 908 | 623 |
This dataset covers flooding from rivers and the sea only — one of five flood sources. Surface water, groundwater, sewers and reservoirs are assessed separately, so a postcode missing from it is not proof that a place cannot flood. The band describes the land around properties (allowing for defences), not any single address and not today's conditions.

The nearest watercourse on the river map is Glossop Brook, about 10 m from the middle of Glossop's gauges. It flows into the River Etherow about 2.0 km downstream.
A gauge downstream shows water that has already passed this point; one upstream sees it first. Distances along the river are from the point on Glossop Brook nearest the middle of Glossop's gauges. From Ordnance Survey’s river map (OS Open Rivers), which leaves out small streams, ditches and culverts, so a nearer one may exist. This describes where water goes on the map; it says nothing about flooding at any address. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database rights 2026.
