About Edgware
Edgware
Suburban town in Borough of Barnet, London

Edgware is a suburban town in northwest London. It was an ancient parish in the county of Middlesex east of the ancient Watling Street in what is now the London Borough of Barnet but it is now informally considered to cover a wider area, including parts of the borough of Harrow. The district is located 10 miles (16 km) north-northwest of Charing Cross and has a generally suburban character. The urban-rural fringe includes some elevated woodland on a high gravel and sand ridge along the Hertfordshire border with Greater London.

Does Edgware flood?

Ordnance Survey places 93 postcodes in Edgware in the Environment Agency's rivers-and-sea flood-risk dataset (Risk of Flooding from Rivers and Sea). Each postcode is counted once, under the worst band any of its properties reaches; together they hold 972 properties in the EA dataset's likelihood bands.

EA likelihood bandPostcodes (worst band)Properties in the EA datasetof which homes
High37343286
Medium24148128
Low29414396
Very low36750

This dataset covers flooding from rivers and the sea only — one of five flood sources. Surface water, groundwater, sewers and reservoirs are assessed separately, so a postcode missing from it is not proof that a place cannot flood. The band describes the land around properties (allowing for defences), not any single address and not today's conditions.

The watercourse nearest Edgware

Two mapped watercourses are about the same distance from the middle of Edgware's gauges: Dean's Brook (about 120 m) and Edgewarebury Brook (about 140 m), so this page cannot say which one is nearer to you.

Distances along the river are from the point on each watercourse nearest the middle of Edgware's gauges. From Ordnance Survey’s river map (OS Open Rivers), which leaves out small streams, ditches and culverts, so a nearer one may exist. This describes where water goes on the map; it says nothing about flooding at any address. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database rights 2026.
