  3. Flood alert Groundwater flooding in the Great Shefford area West BerkshireGroundwater
    Message

    Continued high groundwater levels may lead to flooding. Flooding of low-lying areas and roads is possible.

    Groundwater levels are high but gradually falling at our Northfield Farm borehole in the Great Shefford area. Groundwater levels are expected to continue falling slowly over the coming week following drier conditions over recent weeks. Due to the nature of groundwater, flooding could continue for several weeks or longer.

    We are closely monitoring rainfall and groundwater levels.

    Residents are advised to consider property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. Keep up to date with groundwater levels on the 'Get Flood Warnings' site on gov.uk.

    Flooding is possible 3 hours either side of high tide on Thursday evening.  High tide of 1.89mAOD at Teignmouth will be at 19:00 on Thursday 30th. Strong Easterly Force 5 winds and offshore wave heights up to 1.4m are forecast. Recent storms have increased the risk of wave overtopping at Torcross. Conditions will be less hazardous along Torcross seafront, compared to this morning’s (Thursday 30th) high tide. Coastal conditions are expected to ease following Thursday evening high tide.  We are closely monitoring the situation .  Avoid beaches and coastal promenades, which may be flooded.

    Flooding is expected 3 hours either side of high tide on Thursday morning. 
    High tides of 1.9 mAOD at Teignmouth will be at 06:37AM on Thursday. Strong Easterly Force 6 winds and offshore wave heights up to 2.6m are forecast. Recent storms have increased the risk of wave overtopping at Torcross. Hazardous conditions are forecast along Torcross seafront, with waves containing debris. Coastal conditions are expected to ease on Thursday evening.

    High tides, strong winds and large waves this afternoon may lead to flooding. 
    Flooding is possible 3 hours either side of high tide on the afternoon of Wednesday and Thursday morning. 
    High tides of 1.72mAOD at Teignmouth will be at 18:21 on Wednesday 29th increasing to 1.80 mAOD on Thursday morning. Strong Easterly Force 5 to Force 6 winds and offshore wave heights up to 2.6m are forecast. Recent storms have increased the risk of wave overtopping at Torcross. Hazardous conditions are forecast along Torcross seafront, with waves containing debris.
    Coastal conditions are expected to ease on Thursday evening.

Severe flooding. Danger to life. Stay in a safe place with a means of escape, and follow the advice of the emergency services. Call 999 if you are in immediate danger.
