The catchment
Agricultural catchment on Lower Lias, with fairly low relief despite being near the headwaters.
The station
Open channel site suffered heavily from weed growth which led to the installation of the flat-v weir. Cableway no longer in use - flow gaugings carried out by waded, remote control or roped ADCP in the same section as the cableway.
How it measures flow
Crest tapping and downstream tail recorder installed (from October and November 1999 respectively). Weir is situated under a bridge which helps reduce weed growth in the measuring channel and on the weir crest. Due to the known problems with weed at the site, paired with the low modular limit of the weir, a crest tapping tile was added on the weir crest. An automated pump was installed for flushing the crest tapping on a regular basis, however is now switched off due to technical issues. Two ratings applied accross the period of record following installation of the flat-v weir in 1998.
