The catchment

Predominantly clay catchment - very flashy by Anglian standards. Agricultural, predominantly arable.

The station

Compound weir with triangular profile centre section 3m wide and broad-crested flanks in a trapezoidal channel, 8.5m wide. One of 3 stations used to calculate Offord flow to determine abstraction regime at Grafham Water. No major bridge/weir change from 1959 drawings to H Reed 1994 survey.

How it measures flow

Downstream level used to flag non-modularity. Peak flow rating takes non-modularity into account but there is a high degree of scatter. One peak flow ratings applied across period of record. There is a stage offset of +1m in WISKI. This has been applied to all stage data, ratings, gaugings, bankfull and wingwall height.

Flow regime

Predominantly natural regime with modest abstractions for agriculture. Some effluent returns.

The flow record

Peak flows rejected between 1963 and 1966 due to low confidence. Water year 2002/2003 rejected due to AMAX occurring during missing period in Jan-Mar 2003. Full period of record peak flow data reviewed and released in August 2021 (WINFAP Files v10).
