The catchment
Responsive catchment due to steep slopes on Liassic clay and marl.
The station
Station replaced Bridport (44003) in March 1996 at the same location but in a greatly modified channel, so held as separate stations.
How it measures flow
Flat 'V' Crump profile weir, 6.3m wide (0.618m above weir crest width increases to 7.3m). Ultrasonic added in 2005 and used as primary flow measurement method when stage exceeds 0.957m. Modified channel means bypassing is no longer an issue. One peak flow rating across the period of record. Flat V theoretical to 0.154m, best fit to gaugings to 0.957m and derived from ultrasonic beyond 0.957m.
