Skipton is a market town and civil parish in the modern ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. Historically located in the East Division of Staincliffe Wapentake of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Skipton lies generally south of the Yorkshire Dales and is situated on both the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The town is located 27 miles (43 km) north-west of Leeds and 38 miles (61 km) west of York. In the 2021 Census, the population was recorded as being 15,042. The town has been listed as one of the best and happiest places to live in the UK.
Ordnance Survey places 139 postcodes in Skipton in the Environment Agency's rivers-and-sea flood-risk dataset (Risk of Flooding from Rivers and Sea). Each postcode is counted once, under the worst band any of its properties reaches; together they hold 1,876 properties in the EA dataset's likelihood bands.
| EA likelihood band | Postcodes (worst band) | Properties in the EA dataset | of which homes |
|---|---|---|---|
| High | 65 | 809 | 701 |
| Medium | 17 | 298 | 177 |
| Low | 50 | 621 | 332 |
| Very low | 7 | 148 | 98 |
| All bands | 139 | 1,876 | 1,308 |
This dataset covers flooding from rivers and the sea only — one of five flood sources. Surface water, groundwater, sewers and reservoirs are assessed separately, so a postcode missing from it is not proof that a place cannot flood. The band describes the land around properties (allowing for defences), not any single address and not today's conditions.

The nearest watercourse on the river map is Waller Hill Beck, about 50 m from the middle of Skipton's gauges. It flows into Eller Beck about 420 m downstream.
A gauge downstream shows water that has already passed this point; one upstream sees it first. Distances along the river are from the point on Waller Hill Beck nearest the middle of Skipton's gauges. From Ordnance Survey’s river map (OS Open Rivers), which leaves out small streams, ditches and culverts, so a nearer one may exist. This describes where water goes on the map; it says nothing about flooding at any address. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database rights 2026.
