Canonbie is a small village in Dumfriesshire within the local authority area of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, 6 miles south of Langholm and 2 miles north of the Anglo-Scottish border. It is on the A7 road from Carlisle to Edinburgh, and the River Esk flows through it. There are frequent references in older documents to it as Canobie.
Flood Zones, Warning Areas and Surface Water are Environment Agency maps and cover England only. Canonbie is in Scotland, so they draw little or nothing here — that is where the map ends, not an absence of flood risk. SEPA’s warning areas have their own pages under flood areas.
No SEPA warning within 15 km of Canonbie is in FloodRadar's Scottish record, which starts on 15 September 2026 with no earlier archive — so this says nothing about floods before then.
The nearest watercourse on the river map is the River Esk, about 30 m from the middle of Canonbie's gauges. It flows into the River Eden (Channel of River Eden) about 29 km downstream.
A gauge downstream shows water that has already passed this point; one upstream sees it first. Distances along the river are from the point on the River Esk nearest the middle of Canonbie's gauges. From Ordnance Survey’s river map (OS Open Rivers), which leaves out small streams, ditches and culverts, so a nearer one may exist. This describes where water goes on the map; it says nothing about flooding at any address. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database rights 2026.

No recorded flood outline within ~5 km of the Canonbie town centre means no flood was mapped here, which is not evidence none happened: the Environment Agency mapped only some floods, mapping effort rose sharply after about 2000, and surface-water flooding is largely absent from this record. The Environment Agency's Recorded Flood Outlines cover England only, and Canonbie is in Scotland — so an empty record here is an absence of coverage, not an absence of floods.
