A Flood Alert was issued for The Suffolk and Essex coast from Felixstowe to Clacton including Orwell and Stour estuaries in Essex, Suffolk on 9th October 2026. Affected watercourses included the North Sea, River Orwell, River Deben.

During this event, FloodRadar monitoring gauges recorded notable rises. The River Stour at Langham rose 0.08m, peaking at 0.30m.

Environment Agency advice issued

High tides overnight may lead to flooding.  Flooding is possible on consecutive tides from 11pm on Friday 9th October through to 1am on Saturday 10th October.  The flood gates at Felixstowe seafront will be closed. The waterfront at Pin Mill, and The Strand at Wherstead under the Orwell Bridge may be flooded. Water may be on the quay at Mistley. The detailed forecast is for a peak level at Harwich of 2.60 mAODN at 12am, on Saturday 10th October, which is 0.5m above tide tables, Wind Force 6, Westerly. Tides will remain high over the next couple of days.  We are closely monitoring the situation
