A Flood Alert was issued for Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston in Cheshire East, Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington on 3rd September 2026. Affected watercourses included the River Mersey.
During this event, FloodRadar monitoring gauges recorded notable rises. The River Mersey at Fiddlers Ferry rose 3.11m, peaking at 5.21m, while the River Mersey at Didsbury River climbed 0.54m.

Rising river levels overnight may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible from the morning of 04 September 2026 . Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton Brooks and their tributaries rainfall overnight is expected to cause river levels to increase from Friday morning onwards, peaking around 10:00am 4th September. Flooding is expected to worsen until this time. Flood warnings ARE NOT currently expected to be issued. We are closely monitoring the situation .
