The catchment
Moderate to low relief catchment underlain by the Notts coalfield. The Maun rises on generally sandy facies of the Magnesian Lst, crosses onto Sherwood Sst, the gauge sited close to the junction with the Mercia Mudst. Upper catchment dominated by urban centres (Mansfield) and mining spoil; middle and lower reaches rural and forest.
The station
Replacing d/s station (28045). Data from cross-correlation gauge commences in 2019. Prior measurement from Flat V weir with 1:10 cross slopes, Crump profile, 5.2m wide, wing walls at 0.64m.
Flow regime
Subdued response with WRW effluent augmenting low flows.
The flow record
No daily flow data available July 2013 - September 2016 due to subsidence of the weir. Flows from October 2016 onwards are calculated through a new rating and from February 2019 onwards from the cross-correlation gauge. June 2007 high flows were over the wingwalls of the structure.
