The catchment
Very large, diverse catchment, Paleozoic slates in Welsh headwaters, Permo-Triassic sediments in middle reaches and Jurassic and Liassic clays from the Avon catchment.
The station
Cross path ultrasonic gauge to measure low to medium flows where tides affect the flow regime. Upgrade of ultrasonic gauge started June 2007. High flow and gauging site at Haw Bridge (54057) but prone to overestimate flows during tidal phases - leading to significant differences in flow series during tidal phases and dropouts in flow.
