Flood Alert: River Wiske and other tributaries of the River Swale - March 2026

A Flood Alert was issued for River Wiske and other tributaries of the River Swale in North Yorkshire between 13th and 14th March 2026. Affected watercourses included the River Wiske, Brompton Beck, Cod Beck, North Beck, Willow Beck, Sun Beck, Winton Beck.

During this event, FloodRadar monitoring gauges recorded notable rises. The River Swale at Maunby rose 5.10m, peaking at 5.88m, while the Bedale Beck at Leeming climbed 3.72m.

Environment Agency advice issued

High river levels may lead to flooding today. Flooding is possible on 14 March 2026, however, river levels have now peaked and are beginning to fall. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers, especially the River Wiske, Brompton Beck, Cod Beck, North Beck, Willow Beck, Sun Beck, and Winton Beck. We are closely monitoring the situation. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. This message will be updated by 9:00PM on 14 March 2026 or as the situation changes.
