Flood Alert: Lune estuary south west of Lancaster - April 2026

A Flood Alert was issued for Lune estuary south west of Lancaster in Lancashire between 4th and 5th April 2026. Affected watercourses included the Lune estuary.

During this event, FloodRadar monitoring gauges recorded notable rises. The River Lune at Lancaster Quay rose 3.73m, peaking at 5.93m, while the River Lune at Caton climbed 0.91m.

Environment Agency advice issued

There is no longer a threat of flooding, though standing water and debris may still remain.  The previous tide of concern has now passed, the weather is more settled and no flooding is expected.   We will continue to monitor the situation and will issue further alerts or warnings if necessary.   If you have been evacuated only return to your property once the emergency services have advised that it is safe to do so. Never drive through flood water, just 30cm of fast flowing water is enough to move your car.
