A Flood Alert was issued for Groundwater flooding in East Kent in Kent on 27th February 2026. Affected watercourses included the Groundwater.
During this event, FloodRadar monitoring gauges recorded notable rises. The River Stour at Sandwich Quay rose 1.68m, peaking at 2.03m, while the Groundwater Level at Upper Petham Bourne climbed 0.52m.

Rising groundwater levels may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible to low lying land, roads and properties with basements around the following areas: Petham Bourne, Alkham bourne and Nailbourne including Alkham, Temple Ewell, Elham, Barham, Bishopsbourne, Bridge, Patrixbourne and Bekesbourne. Groundwater levels in East Kent have been rising following significant rainfall during January and early February. Levels are continuing to increase in response to recent rainfall and the Nailbourne is flowing throughout. We are closely monitoring the situation, and have started operating the Littlebour
