The catchment
A steep moorland catchment. No known catchment changes.
The station
Two-stage compound Crump weir, 8.8m broad, low crest 1.5m wide, on a natural waterfall 0.6km u/s of confluence with the River Wear. Discontinued 1980; re-opened February 2000 as a level-only flood warning site. Wing walls were removed on closure, and central low-flow crest raised to level of flanking weirs on reopening. Subject to considerable gravel accretion.

Modular throughout the range. Bypassed on both banks above wing walls. One peak flow rating applied across period of record. Gaugings confirm theoretical rating. Flood Studies Report grade A1.
