    Forecast high river levels this afternoon may lead to flooding. 
    Flooding is possible on 28 August 2026 . 
    Flooding may affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Blythe between Cheswick Green and Blyth End. This flood alert has been issued as heavy rain and thunderstorms have been forecast for this area. There is uncertainty however, over the amount of rainfall expected and their exact location. 
    We are closely monitoring the situation . 
    Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water .

    There is no longer a threat of flooding, though standing water and debris may still remain. 
    Weather conditions are expected to improve and no further flooding is expected.  
    We will continue to monitor the situation and will issue further alerts or warnings if necessary.  
    If you have been evacuated only return to your property once the emergency services have advised that it is safe to do so. Never drive through flood water, just 30cm of fast flowing water is enough to move your car.

    River levels are decreasing, but remain high at the Castle Farm river gauge, therefore flooding remains possible throughout Sunday. Some light rainfall is forecast, but no further increases are expected, we expect levels to continue to fall.
    Flooding may affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Blythe between Cheswick Green and Blyth End.
    We are monitoring rainfall and river levels. Avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. Stay away from flood water - it contains hidden dangers such as open man hole covers, sewage and chemicals.

    River levels are continuing to rise at the Castle Farm gauge so the risk of flooding remains. We expect levels to peak on Saturday afternoon. Some light rainfall is expected in the next 24hours

What the three levels mean

Flood alert

Flooding is possible. Be prepared. Keep an eye on local river levels and forecasts, and get ready to move valuables and put flood protection in place.

Flood warning

Flooding is expected. Immediate action required. Move family, pets and valuables to safety, turn off gas, electricity and water if it is safe to, and put flood protection in place.

Severe flood warning

Severe flooding. Danger to life. Stay in a safe place with a means of escape, and follow the advice of the emergency services. Call 999 if you are in immediate danger.

Where this comes from. Warnings in force are the Environment Agency’s own, which we check every 15 minutes. They cover England only: for Wales see Natural Resources Wales, for Scotland SEPA Floodline, and for Northern Ireland nidirect.

The history is the Environment Agency’s record of every warning raised since 2006, which it publishes each quarter, joined to the warnings we have recorded live since. Each count is one warning or alert raised for one area; a warning that was later updated counts once. When a warning is removed that is not counted as a new warning. An area with no warnings on record can still flood.
