Time-of-flight ultrasonic flow gauge installed in Jan/Feb 2019 replacing measurement from Flat V Weir. Widespread subsidence in the area caused intermittent drowning of the weir between October 2015 and April 2019 for which a tailwater correction was applied to account for non-modularity.

The catchment
Geology predominantly Sherwood Sandstone with Limestone in the west and Mercia Mudstone to the east. Little Drift cover. Contains urban areas of Mansfield and Sutton in Ashfield. Mixed land use of arable and woodland.
The station
Time of flight ultrasonic flow gauge post Jan 2019. Pre-2019 Flat V weir, 5.2m wide with 0.64m high wingwalls. Built to measure flows d/s of the Sherwood Sandstone aquifer and to complement gauge at Mansfield (28115) which measures flows u/s of aquifer. Weir drowned during June 2007 high flows, flows over wingwalls.
How it measures flow
High flows during full period of record to be used with caution. No out of bank rating during period of weir or ultrasonic measurement. Out of bank flow occurs more frequently since 2015 due to widespread subsidence. Wingwalls raised for installation of the ultrasonic sensors with bypassing occuring below top transducer level.
Flow regime
The Maun is influent in the Sherwood Sandstone reaches; low flows can decline below those at 28115.
