The catchment
Low relief, agricultural catchment, draining Sherwood S'st in the North-east headwaters, Mercia Mudstone elsewhere. Overlain by river terrace gravels and alluvium in valleys.
The station
Crump profile Flat V weir, 5m wide, 1:10 cross-slopes, with crest tapping. In 2016 the site has undergone silt clearance and eal pass and pre-barrage fish pass were installed.
How it measures flow
Cableway is no longer in use - ADCP remote controlled gaugings carried out within measurement section and across adjacent floodplain on left bank during out of bank flows. In-channel weed growth is managed during the Summer months. Upstream railway bridge can cause skewed flow affecting gaugings across the flow range at times. Upstream right bank vegetation was cleared in 2024 to improve flow conditions.
Flow regime
Backs up from d/s bridge. Interference from gw pumping and sewage effluent, net effect of reduction in runoff. Baseflow maintained by glacial valley gravel.
