The catchment
Low relief catchment. Mercia Mudstone in the lower catchment is overlain by river terraces, otherwise Lower Lias clays and silts. The north has abundant glacial sands and gravels. Wholly rural apart from south Rugby. Mixed farming.

Side-contracted central low flow flume, flanked by broad-crested weirs in a straight reach.

Exceeds bankfull but not bypassed. Rated by model test and current meter. ADCP remote controlled gaugings typically carried out a few metres upstream of the flume.
