The catchment
Predominantly agricultural catchment draining Edge Hill. Some Boulder Clay to the east overlying, predominantly, argillaceous rocks of the Lower Liassic series with Mercia Mudstone closer to the gauge.
The station
Flat V Crump profile weir built in 1976 as part of flood alleviation scheme works, 7.97m wide; cross-slope 1:20, large d/s fall, all flows contained. Fish pass on right bank completed in July 2023.
How it measures flow
July 2007 flows exceeded limit of rating curve. In-channel weed growth is prevelant, extending from the measurement section upstream and affects low flow gaugings where flow conditions very slack. Weed is managed during the summer months. ADCP remote controlled gaugings carried out just upstream of fish pass, though have been carried out further upstream with mixed success. Further gaugings required across the flow range to help confirm rating curve performance post fish pass installation.

Flow regime has visibly changed since May 1989 with more diurnal pattern, believed due to Wellsbourne Water Mill being restored.
